How I supported my hair after postpartum shedding (naturally)
I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror. Until I found what worked.
At 4 months postpartum, I was pulling out handfuls of hair in the shower. Every time I brushed my hair, I’d see more strands in my hands than on my head. My hairline was disappearing, and all I could think was: Is this normal? Will it ever grow back?
That feeling - the panic, the frustration, the constant shedding - is something so many of us go through.
Postpartum hair loss is normal, but that doesn’t make it easy.
So, how do you get through it? And better yet: how do you support your hair’s renewal after postpartum shedding?
When the shedding starts, so does the search for answers
At first, I tried to ignore it.
I knew postpartum hair loss was common, but no one prepared me for the emotional toll of watching my hair thin overnight.
I started googling (sounds familiar?):
💭 “Does postpartum hair loss grow back?”
💭 “Best oils for postpartum hair regrowth”
💭 “How to make postpartum hair grow back faster”
I bought a biotin supplement. I switched shampoos. Nothing changed.
Then I realized postpartum hair regrowth isn’t just about hair but about recovery.
Hell no, I wasn’t just missing vitamins.
My hormones, stress levels, and nutrients were all playing a role.
3 things that actually helped my hair grow back
The biggest mistake I made?
Focusing only on my hair when I should have been supporting my WHOLE BODY and SOUL.
Here’s what actually worked for me:

I started with my scalp
I learned that hair regrowth starts under the scalp. I realized my scalp needed extra care and attention after such a major shift.
- I massaged my scalp every night with rosemary oil (some studies have explored rosemary oil’s potential to support scalp health and circulation).
- I used a wooden scalp brush in the shower to improve circulation.
- I stopped using harsh shampoos that stripped my scalp of natural oils.
Within weeks, I noticed the first tiny baby hairs starting to sprout. That was the moment I knew regrowth was possible.

I gave my body what it needed to support hair wellness
I realized my body needed overall support, not just a better shampoo. My body was still healing, and my hair was not its priority.
I started focusing on:
- Adaptogens like Ganoderma lucidum, traditionally used to support stress resilience and overall balance.
- Iron & vitamin D, because low levels make postpartum shedding worse.
- More protein & collagen. Hair is made of keratin, and keratin needs protein.
The biggest change? I switched to a complete postpartum wellness system designed to support hair health. Over time, I started noticing less shedding and new baby hairs around my hairline.

I stopped making things worse
At the same time, I realized I was accidentally slowing my regrowth by damaging the new hair coming in.
- I ditched tight ponytails. The constant tension was making my hairline worse.
- I swapped my cotton pillowcase for silk. Less friction means less breakage.
- I cut out sulfates & alcohols because dry, brittle hair breaks before it has the chance to grow.
My hair started looking and feeling more like me again.
Six months later, my hair looks like me again
Now?
I still have some baby hairs, but they’re filling in strong. I’m not panicked in the shower anymore.
And I finally feel like I’m coming back to myself.
If you’re in the middle of postpartum shedding, I promise:
It may take time, but with the right care, many of us have seen real improvements!
And if you want to support your journey more intentionally, focus on stimulating your scalp, fueling your body, and protecting new growth.
